The goal of the Apprenticeships is to expose and familiarize interns with the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Construction industry. The job description described below explains the tasks and responsibilities associated with the internship position. These tasks are crucial to successfully accomplish the bidding phase of projects, and must be taken extremely seriously.
Apprentices are responsible for the following throughout their Apprenticeship program:

  • Assist in answering phone calls within 2 rings
  • Assist with the preparation of thorough, accurate and timely estimates, including the preparation of bid documents and the development of clear written correspondence
  • Accumulate, evaluate, and document correspondence
  • Assist with material takeoffs on drawings and plans
  • Assist estimators in procuring bids and qualified subcontractors
  • Obtains telephone quotes for materials and services
  • Subcontractor bid reviews
  • Assist on bid day
  • Specification review
  • Create the Project Binder
    • If it has JSEB or Minority see ‘Good Faith Efforts Binder’
    • If there is no Minority – file ITB and quotes Prepare Minority Effort binders
  • May need to attend site visits or turn in bid proposals, some travel may be required
  • Other duties as assigned but supervisors and in the Apprenticeship Process Descriptions
